Why did you come to Primal? 

I’ve always tried to stay active and healthy, but always had to rely on staying self-motivated and to get to the gym, to know what to do and push myself. A lot of the time, that just didn’t happen!

When Covid and lockdowns first hit, I suddenly had to try to stay motivated and active when stuck in a small apartment. Like a lot of people, I tried my best, but didn’t last very long before the couch came calling. Restrictions started to lift, and I was left far, far behind on my goals. I had lost a lot of muscle, was in a completely different mindset, and gained a good chunk of weight.

I needed a change. I needed a gym that could give me the workouts I needed to rebuild my functional strength and who had instructors that could keep me motivated and in the right head space. 

What were (are) your challenge(s) you faced whilst trying to achieve your goal(s)?

Having a bucket load of bad habits from years of going to the gym solo; doing exercises and routines that I’d learned off Youtube, skipping some foundational stretches & exercises to focus on heavy lifting to try and get the most bang for my buck.

Progress was slow, and often at the expense of functional movement & the occasional injury.

How did you overcome these challenges?

I simply signed up for a variety of classes at Primal NRG and turned up!

The classes & instructors in Primal NRG are fantastic; I was effectively able to completely remove myself from the process of having to research workouts and keeping my motivation, routines & technique in check. I was in safe hands.

I was surprised at just how much more I enjoyed exercising once I knew I could just turn up, and there would be a tailored routine for me to tackle. A lot less stress for me, and I was able to really focus on pushing myself past my old limits.

What is (was) your best achievement whilst training at Primal?

My first goal was the same as a lot of people – to lose some Covid weight and to try and look a bit better, but that’s been completely overshadowed by the main thing that’s changed since I’ve joined Primal NRG.

I feel fantastic. I feel fitter, stronger, healthier, and more capable than I ever have before. Hikes are easier, I’m sleeping better, my diet is in control, clothes seem to fit me better. I don’t have any joint or muscle pains, and I feel like I’ve been able to get myself into a routine that will keep me as fit as possible, long into the future.

Not only was Primal NRG able to help me achieve my fitness goals, but their focus on good, long-term fitness has improved a lot of other areas in my life I hadn’t even considered. I wish I’d joined much, much sooner.

What did you like most about training at Primal?

The classes are small, structured, and are at times that easily fit around my busy work schedule. The instructors always make you feel warm, welcome, and genuinely want to help. 

People often find gyms intimidating places, but with Primal NRG, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

What advice would you give to someone trying to achieve a training goal similar to you?

Sign up to as many different classes as you can, turn up and enjoy the process!
