Patrick’s Story
“I was very self-conscious and anxious as I have BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder).
But at Primal, there are no mirrors so I'm more confident and fitter now. ”
Taking action - the first step
I wanted to improve two things: movement and health. My parents are in their 70s and still incredibly active! As diabetes runs in my family, I’m also at risk and need to stay on top of it. So I joined Primal where I found the extra support to manage both my physical and mental health.
Turning challenges into triumphs - a personal journey
BDD is difficult to overcome. The anxiety can be overwhelming when I feel like people are looking at me. Primal is a very diverse group where it’s easy to drop your guard and fortunately, many people look like me!
I used to find it hard to drag myself to the gym since I injured myself quite often from daily activities. But being consistent and staying active in a safe environment has helped me build strength and ultimately overcome a shoulder injury.
Before, I was also starving myself to lose weight so the weight kept coming back. Here at Primal, I’ve finally found something sustainable!
Message to anyone going through similar challenges
I encourage people who are conscious and don't go to the gym - you can overcome your anxiety. Remember, people aren't looking at you and if I can do it, so can you.
